I started baking back in 2016 - I was struggling with my mental health, and baking cakes gave me something productive and creative to focus on.
I mostly made cupcakes, brownies, celebration cakes - and even my own jars of jam.
And it changed my life.
After progressing from baking for myself to family celebration cakes, the Bakehouse was born at Barnoldswick Market a couple of years later.
I sold cupcakes, slices of bigger cakes, and cookies. It was a big step and I wasn’t really sure if anyone would be interested - but I was amazed to sell out every week.
Through all the seasons, I had lots of regulars turn up every week, which made me so happy.
We all know what happened here...
In 2020, with in-person market a no-go, I started taking online orders from the local community, and dropping bakes at doorsteps for a socially-distanced treat.
I think everyone needed a bit of a treat during this period, and I was kept busier than ever.
So busy that I started taking orders from wider afield, and posting across the UK for the first time.
After a few months of selling online, I wanted to build a better identity. Robinson's Bakehouse was fine for the local market, but didn't feel exciting enough for the online orders.
I also wanted to do more to be a bold and confident LGBTQ+ business, and so the Little Rainbow Bakehouse was born.
Lockdown was a time of reflection for everyone, and for me a chance to make a big life change as my husband and I moved to Manchester.
Leaving behind the local community that helped make me who I am was tough, but the opportunity to move to the best city in the world, around the best gay community in the world, was life-changing.
I took some time away from baking after moving to Manchester, but I'm back and better than ever.
What does the future hold? I have no idea, let's see where we can take this.
